M. D. Fox Elementary
Mission
The mission of Dr. Michael D. Fox Elementary School is to facilitate learning for our students in the critical thinking skills and problem-solving strategies that will empower them to become life-long learners and respectful, responsible citizens. Our purpose is to produce highly literate, mathematically competent students equipped with effective oral and written communication, and proficient analytical and quantitative skills. We foster a child-centered environment to develop the artistic and physical potential of our students, to nurture the health and well being of all individuals, and to promote the appreciation and understanding of our multi-ethnic community within a safe and orderly school. By applying research-based practices, we strive to provide our students with an enriching, dynamic multicultural education designed to prepard them to meet the challenges of living productively in an ever-changing global society.
M.D. Fox has a dedicated, diverse, multicultural staff that averages 14.2 years of Connecticut teaching experience; 68% of our teachers hold a Master’s Degree or above. There are 74 certified staff, three administrators, a library/media specialist. 2.5 social workers, 2.0 psychologists, as well as 2.5 speech teachers, and 22 non-certified instructional assistants working in the building. In addition, a full service health clinic is housed at M.D. Fox, while the city also provides a full day care program at the Fox for Hartford children.
Our school, the “Multicultural Window To The World”, includes monolingual English classrooms, dual language classrooms and inclusion classrooms. Our unified arts program, one of the best in the city, includes music teachers, physical education teachers and art teachers. M.D. Fox Elementary School also provides a cadre of services to parents and community members through our Family Resource Center.

Technology
M.D. Fox Elementary is utilizing a computer lab of 20 computers in the media center and classroom computers for student and teacher use. All computers have high speed internet access. Teachers are on line with email and are in the process of integrating technology with the curriculum. Teachers are being trained through district initiatives and N.E.A.T. in order to better utilize technology in our school.
Master Test Performance
The State of Connecticut requires that the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) be given each fall to all third, fourth, and fifth grade students. CMT initiatives such as Word of the Day, Daily CMT homework, parent support and an after school CMT enrichment program are paving the way for student success in the classroom and on the CMT. |
